Malaysia’s jailed reformist Anwar Ibrahim will likely be freed by noon on Wednesday after the Pardons Board in Kuala Lumpur meet on the same day to discuss his release. He is expected to walk free from Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital without being taken back to Sungai Buloh Prison. His appointment as the eighth prime minister of Malaysia will not be done hastily, said his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who has been named the new deputy prime minister. According to plan, the appointment would be carried out during the mid-term of the new Pakatan Harapan administration. The political coalition won a stunning victory in Malaysia’s 14th general election last week, ending UMNO’s long rule which the former and new premier played a key role in entrenching for more than two decades.
