Police acting on a complaint by Thailand’s ruling junta have charged the leaders of a new political party that strongly opposes military rule with violating the computer crime law, which could result in five-year prison terms, the Associated Press reports. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, the co-founder and leader of Thailand’s Future Forward Party has always been open of his criticism of the Thai junta, which he considers as an international embarrassment. Among the new parties that emerged after the military coup in 2014, only a few have had the immediate impact of Future Forward, with its progressive agenda and billionaire auto tycoon at the helm. In fact, the party captured so much public attention that the ruling military junta quickly pressed the electoral commission to void its registration, writes Hannah Ellis-Petersen for The Guardian.
