Almost seven out of 10 children in Malaysia worry a lot about bullying, according to a new global survey issued by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in conjunction with World Children’s Day on Monday. This is compared to only three out of 10 children in Japan and close to four in 10 in the United Kingdom.  Bullying cases in Malaysian schools are showing an alarming increase with physical bullying being the most common form. Last year, the total number of bullying cases was 3,448, a 14.5 percent increase from 3,011 cases in 2015. In 2014, there were 2,901 cases. Laws, rules, and regulations have always been there to punish wrongdoers but they must be made malleable enough to change according to situations and context, writes S. Gopinath for MalaysiaKini.
