The Organization of Islam Cooperation (OIC) has agreed on Indonesia’s proposals related to employment issues, such as the mutual recognition of improvement of workers’ skills and recommendation of bilateral agreements on labor exchange.
“The approval of the two proposals is an achievement for Indonesia, which is chairman of the Manpower Ministerial Meeting Forum of OIC, in promoting the improvement of global employment issues, particularly among OIC member states,” said Maruli A. Hasoloan, director general of training and expansion of manpower and employment opportunities for the Ministry of Manpower, at the forum in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.
According to the press release received by ANTARA here on Thursday, the two documents were agreed at the senior officials’ meeting of the OIC Manpower Ministerial Meeting.
The documents were signed by manpower ministers of OIC member states. The Indonesian Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri also attended the meeting.
Dhakiri served as the chairman of the Manpower Ministerial Meeting of the OIC during the 2015-2017 period.
The chairman of the ministerial meeting for the next two years will be the labor minister of Saudi Arabia, Ali Bin Nasser Al Ghufaes.
Maruli added that the benefits of the ratified documents include the recognition of the competence and qualification of Indonesian skilled workers among the OIC member countries.
The document also improves Indonesia`s position with regards to the placement of Indonesian migrant workers.
Additionally, the document also set an agreement on the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, while prioritizing the principle of equitable work.
The ministerial meeting is held every two years. The conference held in Jeddah is the fourth meeting that raised the theme of “Developing a Common Strategy for Manpower Development.”
