Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has said that his stint at the premiership could be extended beyond the two years as previously stated, emphasising that it was only a “suggestion”. Malaysians do not mind if Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad stays on as the country’s top leader, despite his saying that he would leave after two years. In a straw poll conducted by The Malaysian Insight, many respondents said the 92-year-old should stay in office for as long as he needs to resolve the country’s problems. Mahathir has reiterated the need for Malaysia to live within its means and not incur too much debt. He said in a newspaper interview that his government would give priority to restoring the country’s economic fortunes within a loose two-year time frame he has set for his premiership.
