Employment agencies in Singapore said demand for foreign domestic workers outstrips supply. This is due to a lack of new applicants and employers extending their current maids’ contracts Uncertainty of flight situation means maids could be stuck in their country even after obtaining approval to work here. The Association of Employment Agencies has asked MOM to grant more entry approvals for domestic helpers, said its president, Ms K Jayaprema, pointing out that the maids help to support the economy indirectly by freeing up employers to work.
