Malaysian businesses are in for a rough ride, five days into the implementation of the Sales and Service Tax (SST), due to confusion over the taxation system, The Star reports. Business association leaders suspect the SST Act was rushed through in Parliament, which led to little time in understanding its mechanism. Malaysians will not have to pay SST for mobile prepaid services provided by telecommunication companies, which needed more time to change their accounting systems, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said. The minister said previously that the SST would not lead to significant price changes as it is only applicable to 38 per cent of the Consumer Price Index basket of goods compared with the 60 per cent under the previous Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.
