Bangladeshi authorities have destroyed about 20 boats ferrying Rohingya Muslims fleeing violence in Myanmar, claiming smugglers make use of the huge exodus to bring methamphetamine into the country. Earlier this week, Bangladesh and Myanmar agreed to set up a “working group” to plan the repatriation of more than half a million Rohingya refugees who fled to Bangladesh to escape an army crackdown. Humanitarian organizations helping Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh say they need $434m (£327m) over the next six months to help up to 1.2 million people, many of them children, who need life-saving help.
