American tech giant Amazon is planning a US$1 billion foray into Indonesia, in another major investment in the Southeast Asian digital economy, according to The Straits times. The investment will be spread over a 10-year period. It will see the introduction of the firm’s cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), to the Indonesian market. To realize the investment, President Joko Widodo has requested the Finance Minister to consider giving tax incentives to the e-commerce giant. Although the e-commerce market in Indonesia has active players betting high on it, the entry of global e-commerce company Amazon in Indonesia is expected to disrupt the e-commerce landscape of the country, according to The Entrepreneur.
