Two leaders of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) have said that the party must forge ahead without its former President Najib Razak, as his corruption cases would cloud the plan to renew the party, The Strait Times reports. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was charged on Wednesday with three counts of money laundering, as part of a probe into how billions of dollars went missing from state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) during his term. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. Najib said UMNO leaders did not have to defend him any more as he wanted to go through a fair trial on his own, according to Free Malaysia Today. Previously, UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded fellow leaders not to “step on someone’s head when they are down”.
