Thailand and ASEAN’s small & medium sized enterprises (SME) are more optimistic about investing in digital transformation and are more confident about their investment in upgrading technology platform as the digitalization has started to play an important role in business. “Across ASEAN as many as 45% of the SMEs are looking to transform their business through digitalization,” Sathit Boonchalok, Senior Vice President and head of product development at United Overseas Bank (Thailand) said during the opening remarks at the World Fintech Festival in Bangkok which saw about 70 Thai corporate, SMEs, and tech companies attending, together with FinTech startups and technology companies across ASEAN. He added that 66% of the SMEs have said that they are looking to increase investment in their technology platform, up from 30% seen in the previous survey done more than 2-years ago. Sathit, said that Thailand is one country that stands to benefit a lot as it is a country which has high degree of digital penetration. A survey, he said that was undertaken by Accenture and commissioned by UOB, showed that 74% of the SMEs are looking for expanding their operations across the ASEAN region and not just focus on their local market. The Thai event is a precursor to the event to be held in Singapore from November 2-4 which has become a regional fintech event showcasing what has evolved in the region and the world. Read more at:
