The Port of Singapore has long been the unchallenged leader among marine transport hubs in Southeast Asia, but that may be changing as it suffers slowing growth  in container traffic growth and nearby ports in Indonesia and Malaysia gain ground, reports Nikkei Asian Review. New Priok will be Indonesia’s biggest port once it is completed, and is one of 24 ports planned to overhaul maritime connections in Southeast Asia’s top economy, which comprises more than 17,000 islands. In Malaysia, About RM5billion would be needed over the next five years for the expansion of Kuantan Port, Sapangar Bay Container Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas, says RAM Ratings as quoted by The Star.
