There is no denying the moral force of the anti-corruption narrative. It is powerful, mobilizing and politically seductive. It offers a clear villain and an easy vocabulary of outrage. For those who see themselves as pro-democracy, pro-human rights, and pro-Philippines, corruption becomes the convenient focal point, the moral high ground from which every critique flows. But while corruption must never be normalized or excused, it is strategically reckless to allow this narrative to consume the entirety of the democratic opposition’s political horizon.
