ONE of the arguments that is sometimes raised against the greater adoption of renewable energy (RE) here in the Philippines is that building more RE generation facilities such as solar farms, wind turbines and hydroelectric dams works against the country’s efforts to achieve food security. Both food security and energy security are critical needs for the Philippines, but arguments that suggest one cannot be achieved without expense to the other are simply wrong.
