Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was charged Wednesday morning with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of abuse of power as part of an investigation into a scandal-mired state fund, and was later in the day released on bail, The Mainichi reports. Najib has released a pre-recorded video on his social media accounts that appears to be an attempt at invoking the empathy of his Muslim audience. Najib apologised for his time during prime minister, saying he was just an imperfect man, while images on the video are showing him performing religious worship. Najib’s supporters were out in full force at the Kuala Lumpur court complex, with placards in both English and Mandarin, to show their support. The band of supporters carried placards featuring messages such as #freenajib and “Respect Civil Rights” in both languages, the New Straits Times reports.
