The director of a Myanmar-based NGO promoting tolerance, social harmony and peaceful coexistence has been granted this year’s MC Bassiouni Justice Award for his efforts towards domestic fact-finding and accountability at the courts in Myanmar for alleged human rights violations in northern Rakhine State in 2017 and other achievements. The Forum for International Criminal and Humanitarian Law (FICHL), under the Brussels-based Center for International Law Research and Policy, announced last week that Dr. Kyaw Yin Hlaing of the Center for Diversity and National Harmony (CDNH) had been granted the award.

The award recognizes outstanding service to the adjudication, prosecution, investigation, documentation, defense, analysis, diplomacy or study of core international crimes such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
