Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his first-ever official visit to Indonesia on Tuesday in a bid to enhance bilateral cooperation in a broad range of areas, including maritime, trade and investment. On the eve of his visit to Southeast Asian countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India had a robust strategic partnership with all the three countries and his visit would provide a further boost to the country’s Act East Policy. It appears that India will gain access to facilities at the strategically located Indonesian island of Sabang, which sits approximately 175 kilometers southeast of the southernmost island in India’s own Andaman and Nicobar Island chain, just north of Sumatra, writes Ankit Panda for The Diplomat.
