Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is increasingly unpopular and there is growing disillusionment with his government among pro-reform political groups. More and more believe he has failed to live up to expectations, with his government being criticized for slow-walking reforms and perceived weakness on economic and corruption issues. Civil society organizations, led by Bersih, have become increasingly critical of the Anwar administration, reflecting the declining support for the reformasi movement. There are several factors contributing to this disillusionment, including the lack of alternatives, the perceived weakness of grassroots political movements and the challenges posed by Malaysia’s complex political landscape.
