President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and prospective rival, Prabowo Subianto, are racing against time to pick their respective running mates, with the registration period for the upcoming presidential race expected to end this Friday, The Jakarta Post reports. The president is said to be considering public figures with strong Islamic credentials, while his counterpart is reportedly under pressure to choose from parties that joined the opposition coalition. The uncertainty pertinent to the election is adding to the jitters of investors already rattled by a selloff in the nation’s currency, stocks and bonds triggered by rising U.S. interest rates and higher dollar, according to Bloomberg. Meanwhile, Vice President Jusuf Kalla has expressed hope that the Constitutional Court will review a regulation that imposes a two-term limit on the presidency and vice presidency, before Friday.
