The Sultan of Johor has banned two foreign preachers, Ismail Menk and Haslin Baharim, from entering Johor, a day after Malaysia’s deputy prime minister said the government had no intention to prevent the speakers from entering the country. This ruling also comes two days after the preachers were banned from entering Singapore. Previously, the Sultan warned a local laundrette to stop its practice of allowing only Muslims to use its services or he will personally shut it down. Zimbabwe’s Council of Islamic Scholars questioned the claim that Ismail, better known as Mufti Menk, was divisive and unfit for a multi-religious society for telling Muslims not to say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Diwali”.
