Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is set to cancel a $1.5 billion casino project in Manila by Hong Kong-listed Landing Development Ltd, Reuters reported on Tuesday, quoting presidential spokesman Harry Roque. Roque said that the lease contract between Landing and its local partner, Nayong Pilipino Foundation Inc., was “grossly disadvantageous” to the government. The entire board and management of the latter had been sacked, he added. In January, Duterte called on officials and employees of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) as well as gambling licensees in the country not to engage in graft and corruption. He commended the industry, however, for its contribution to Philippine’s economy.
