Thailand’s military government is crushing the spirit of Bangkok’s nightlife amid an intensifying crackdown that is forcing many bars and clubs to close early or indefinitely, The Washington Post reports. Rising rents and police crackdowns in Thailand’s capital are driving some of the city’s small, independent nightlife venues out of business, according to The Guardian. Thailand has gotten serious about clamping down on bad behavior across the country, including by carrying out late-night raids and mass arrests in Pattaya, following the appointment of the country’s first female tourism minister.
