Upon his return to politics after being sworn in as a law maker on Monday, Malaysia’s reformist icon Anwar Ibrahim said he did not want a role in cabinet or to put a definitive timeline on his elevation as prime minister, as such agreed with Mahathir Mohamad prior to the May general election, South China Morning Post reports. Anwar, 71, joins his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail — currently Malaysia’s deputy prime minister — and his eldest daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, in parliament. He has said that his by-election victory is a “vote of confidence” in the new government, Associated Press reports. Mahathir showed up at Anwar’s election campaign last week in a bid to show support amid rumours on efforts by people close to him  to block Anwar from taking over the prime minister post.
