Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong chairs a national conference to recap a ten-year journey of fighting corruption in Hanoi Thursday. Held at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s hall with online participation from eight central units, including the Party’s Central Inspection Commission and ministries of Public Security and National Defense, and 63 cities and provinces, the event gathers around 81,000 delegates. The conference, the biggest ever on Vietnam’s anti-corruption campaign, aimed to evaluate the actual results of fight against corruption and other negative activities, limitations and weaknesses in the past 10 years and after more than a year of implementing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress that was issued last February. At the same time, it will indicate the causes, draw lessons from experience and set out key tasks and solutions in the coming time. According to a report by the Central Committee for Internal Affairs, the standing body of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, committees and inspection committees at all levels have over the past ten years disciplined more than 2,700 Party organizations, nearly 168,000 Party members, including more than 7,390 Party members for corruption. More than 170 senior officials in charge of the Central Committee had been disciplined. From the beginning of the 13th Party Congress term in early 2021 until now, 50 cadres of the central government have been disciplined, including eight members or former members of the Party’s Central Committee.
