The National Assembly of Vietnam has approved plans to build a number of sections of the north-south expressway with a cumulative length of 654 kilometers by the end of 2021.
Under the parliament’s resolution adopted on November 22, sections to be built include Cao Bo (Nam Dinh province)-Bai Vot (Ha Tinh province), Cam Lo (Quang Tri province)-La Son (Thua Thien-Hue province), Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province)-Dau Giay (Dong Nai province) and My Thuan 2 Bridge connecting Tien Giang and Vinh Long provinces.
The total cost is estimated at VND118.7 trillion (US$5.2 billion), of which VND55 trillion (US$2.4 billion) will come from the state budget while the rest will be sourced from private investors.
The construction of these expressways will require the clearance of 3,736 hectares of land and is currently scheduled to be completed in 2021.
All of the projects will have six lanes, except for the Cam Lo-La Son, which will have only four lanes.
Under the national expressway plan, Vietnam will have an expressway network of more than 6400 kilometers, with an estimated 2,500 kilometers of it scheduled for completion before 2020.
