Electronics makers are preparing to shift more production to Southeast Asia as trade tensions with the US make it less appealing to manufacture gadgets in China, Bloomberg reports. After a handful of quiet days in President Donald Trump’s trade war, it looks as if a further escalation may be on its way following reports that another round of tariffs on China could be announced imminently and a statement from the Chinese government saying it is readying a retaliation, according to Business Insider. Many analyst, however, suggest that Trump’s move could be part of a negotiating tactic aimed at gaining important concessions from the Chinese government. If the trade war continues, Trump may well be the best thing that’s happened to Southeast Asia’s humble electronics industry in quite a while, writes Tim Culpan for Bloomberg.
