About 1,500 people are being evacuated from an island off the northern coast of Papua New Guinea (PNG) after a nearby volcano erupted, the local Red Cross said on Sunday. Mayon volcano in central Philippines spewed ash into the air on Saturday, prompting the country’s disaster agency to order the immediate evacuation of residents in nearby villages. Residents were evacuated from two villages near the volcano, a tourist attraction in Albay province. On Thursday, Bali’s Mount Agung erupted again, sending thick ash and smoke up to 2.5km (1.5 miles) into the sky, according to Indonesian authorities.
