In 2024, Thailand’s democratic facade continued to erode as powerful elites — particularly the royal palace and Shinawatra dynasty — maintained tight political control. Severe human rights violations, including lèse-majesté prosecutions and refugee abuses, marked the year. The judiciary systematically dismantled progressive parties, while military and police reshuffles consolidated authoritarian power.
