Thailand will hold general elections by May 5 next year, a deputy prime minister said on Monday as quoted by Reuters, signalling the possibility of another delay of a vote that had tentatively been set for February. Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha said he may decide whether to enter the political fray in September while reiterating that his military government is committed to holding an election early next year. In an interview with Bloomberg in London on Thursday, Prayuth said he was considering joining a political party to ensure that his policies continue under the new administration. A majority of people say Pheu Thai is the “most interesting party” to them – among both new and old parties – according to the Suan Dusit poll. The poll was conducted on 1,105 people throughout the country between June 12-23, the Bangkok Post reports.
