The Chinese appetite for Thai durians remains strong despite the coronavirus pandemic and weak global demand for goods.

According to Commerce Ministry data, Thailand exported US$567.29 million worth of durians to China in the first four months of 2020, up 78% year-on-year from the same period of 2019. China accounted for 72.1% of durian export value to the world during the period, which totaled $787.72 million, up 30% from the same period of last year. In 2019, Thailand exported $1.46 billion worth of durians to overseas markets, a rise of 54.6% from the previous year, with China, Hong Kong and ASEAN nations accounting for 98% of export volume.
