The National Anti-corruption Commission (NACC) on Wednesday revealed the identities of 11 people — among them a former abbot — at the centre of a probe into temple fund embezzlement. The investigation looked into pilfering at five temples in three provinces: one in Amnat Charoen, three in Tak, and the other in Phetchaburi, NACC secretary-general Worawit Sukboonof said. Fraudulent activities amounted to a combined loss of 26.7 million baht. The NACC will submit their findings to a state attorney to pursue corruption charges in criminal courts.

In the probe at three temples in Ban Tak in Tak province, Phra Khru Kitti Phatcharakhun, a former abbot at a temple, is among seven alleged wrongdoers who include civil servants at state agencies overseeing Buddhism affairs and civilians.
