Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced in mid-August several enhancements to Singapore’s parental leave policies aimed at creating a more “family-friendly environment”, but experts said for this to really become reality, Singapore’s workplaces must play a part too. Bosses justifiably worry that flexible work arrangements might affect productivity and competitiveness, but there are those who have benefited. Several firms said their family-friendly policies have led to better talent retention and attraction. Workers who have benefited from family-friendly measures at their workplaces say without these provisions, they would likely have quit. With the proper forward planning and employee management, companies can have the best of both worlds, experts said.
