Rohingya Muslim insurgents said on Sunday they have no option but to fight what they called Myanmar state-sponsored terrorism to defend the Rohingya community, and they demanded that the Rohingya be consulted on all decisions affecting their future. The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) confirmed that it was responsible for the attack of an army truck in Myanmar’s Rakhine state and wounded five soldiers on Friday, state media said. A series of attacks on security installations last August ignited an exodus of more than 620,000 Rohingya villagers from Rakhine into neighboring Bangladesh, after Myanmar soldiers launched a brutal crackdown. A durable solution for the Rohingya in Myanmar depends on their ability to return home without having to face state-sanctioned violence and ensuring their protection under the rule of law, writes Jonah Blank and Shelly Culbertson for Foreign Affairs.
