Recent youth-led protests in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Nepal have been triggered by local issues but share deeper roots in stalled economic transitions, high unemployment and frustrations with entrenched elites. But regime change often fails to deliver transformative reform, leaving power vacuums vulnerable to opportunistic forces. Experiences across the region show that anti-corruption and anti-elite movements can topple governments, but struggle to address structural barriers to growth and equity. Lasting solutions demand regional cooperation on trade, openness and integration to generate broad-based economic opportunities.
