Prizefighters get ready to rumble, as local promoters get the green light to stage fights. Signed by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), the Philippine Sports Commission and the Department of Health (DoH) last Monday, a joint administrative order (JAO) now allows bouts in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). Along with representatives from Omega Sports Promotions in Cebu province and from Sanman Promotions in Gen. Santos City, well-known promoters Johnny and Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde in the National Capital Region (NCR) welcomed the latest development, looking forward to holding closed-door matches in their respective balwarte (bailiwicks). In an online interview with The Manila Times on Tuesday, Omega Vice President Jerome Calatrava revealed, “We’re planning to do our event by September if ever Mandaue City will be declared under the MGCQ by August.”
