The Philippines National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are on alert for national and local elections on May 9, 2022. PNPS spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said on radio that the PNP has been on full alert since 6am Wednesday. For the AFP, no less than Gen. Andres Centino, the chief of staff said  the military will be on full alert starting Friday. “We are declaring a full red alert by Friday so that we ensure that all AFP across the country are accounted for by their commanders and ready for the election on Monday,” said Centino at a joint press conference with the PNP, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Education and Commission on Elections. Meanwhile, both PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos and Centino both said that there are now verified threats in connection with the May polls.
