The Philippines Wednesday lifted its ban on migrant workers heading for jobs in Kuwait, capping a diplomatic row sparked when a murdered Filipina maid was found in her employer’s freezer. Relations with the Gulf state had soured due to allegations of abuse of Filipino workers. To relay his peace message, Duterte said he had sent his adviser on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) Abdullah Mama-o, whom he has also tapped as special envoy to Kuwait. Previously, Duterte lashed out at Kuwait, which he said had seen at least 82 deaths of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in 2016 alone. Duterte might visit Kuwait after Ramadan over the case of slain overseas Filipino worker Joanna Demafelis, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said.
