Presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday welcomed as a “good development” the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to junk the final disqualification case against him. The plea, lodged by the group Pudno nga Ilokano, was junked for “lack of merit,” according to the Comelec’s document released to the media on Wednesday. With the development, all cases blocking Marcos’ presidential bid have now been dismissed at the division level. Majority of the petitioners have appealed their respective decisions before the Comelec en banc. Lawyer Victor Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesman, said that with the junking of the last pending disqualification case against the presidential frontrunner, the Comelec ruled that Marcos “possesses all the qualifications needed to aspire for, campaign and serve as president of the Republic of the Philippines.” “It is now time for every peace-loving Filipino to work for a clean, honest, credible and fair elections, and allow the people to speak, their voices heard and votes genuinely counted,” he added. Marcos and Duterte-Carpio are revisiting Southern Luzon provinces Wednesday and this Thursday to woo more voters ahead of the May 9 elections.
