Business groups said they are not expecting a major shift when it comes to the United States’ bilateral relations with the Philippines following Democrat’s candidate Joe Biden’s victory, but noted that the President-elect will likely change tone on the US-China trade war issue.

Makati Business Club Executive Director Coco Alcuaz said there will be “probably not much change on a bilateral level unless the US revives TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership).” TPP is a proposed trade agreement among 12 economies that include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the US. It seeks to lower tariffs and trade barriers. In 2017, President Donald Trump pulled the US out of TPP.
