The United Nation’s Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar on Tuesday said that democratic transition in the country had ground to a halt as authorities sought to silence critics while allowing hate speech, particularly against Muslim Rohingya, Reuters reports. The Mission published a 444-page report that breaks down violence against the Muslim minority. The report says the military’s top leadership should be overhauled and have no further influence over the country’s governance. Human rights abuse in Myanmar goes beyond affecting Muslims. Mission chair Marzuki Darusman said that at the core of every incident and every human rights violation examined was the extreme brutality of the Myanmar military. “The facts indicate that its operations are consistently and grossly disproportionate to any discernible military objective”, he added as quoted by Myanmar Times.
