A Yangon court on Monday ordered a marijuana advocate to pay a K20,000 (US$13) fine for leading a demonstration calling for the legalization of marijuana in a public park in downtown Yangon two weeks ago. Ko Sein Hla Maung was undaunted and vowed to continue his movement, called Marijuana Revolution – NJ, to fight for the legal use of cannabis. He said that sending people to prison for using marijuana would destroy them, but that legalizing the plant would help boost the economy, provide jobs for people, and could even boost the country’s foreign reserves.
