Urban guerrilla groups launched attacks on two military-controlled offices in Yangon on 21 November, as confirmed by statements from the groups.
The Yangon Army (YA) carried out an assault on the Myawaddy Television office in Hmawbi Township at 5:10 pm, using M79 grenade launchers. A YA spokesperson confirmed that three grenades were fired, with two landing inside the compound and one near the gate. “There were explosions inside the Myawaddy Television office compound. We used M79 weapons. Two reached inside the office,” the representative said. The attack marked the first anniversary of the establishment of the Yangon Army. The group targeted the TV station due to its role in spreading propaganda and misinformation. The extent of the damage is still under assessment. In a separate incident, at 9 pm, the North Okkalapa Township People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked the No. 14 Ward Administrator’s Office in South Okkalapa Township, using two grenades.
The PDF claimed responsibility for the attack in retaliation for the killing of their comrade, Chocolat (also known as Thardin), by employees of the Ngwe Taung restaurant, located near the ward office, during a bombing incident in 2023. The group added that investigations into the damage caused by the recent attack are ongoing. Read more at: https://eng.mizzima.com/2024/11/24/16618
