Myanmar accused US diplomat Bill Richardson on Thursday of a “personal attack” on Aung San Suu Kyi after an excoriating takedown of the former darling of the global rights community as he resigned from a panel on the Rohingya crisis. Delivering an unusual public rebuke, he called the Myanmar advisory board on Rohingya crisis a pro-government “cheerleading squad”. He also said that Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi had “exploded” at him when he raised the detention of two Reuters journalists who are facing up to 14 years in prison under the country’s Official Secrets Act after they began investigating a mass grave of Rohingya in northern Rakhine.
