A diarrhea outbreak in Mindat and Paletwa Townships of southern Chin State continues to pose a significant health challenge, with urgent medical assistance needed to contain and treat the affected populations. In Mindat Township, a person in charge of Health Department of Mindat Township Administration reports that more than 20 local residents have been infected with diarrheal disease last week in Pan Twal Village, part of Administrative Unit No. 10. The Health Department official said, “It’s still going on in Pan Twal village. We are working to get more medicines. Currently, I am trying my best to treat it. So far, there have been no deaths.” The official highlighted that the majority of the cases in Pan Twal Village involve children under the age of 10 and elderly individuals over the age of 60. Prompt medical treatment has prevented fatalities thus far. Salai Aung Min from the Daai Local Council said, “The patients are increasing. There is not enough medicine. Chin State Council Health Department also connects with organizations to get medical help. Travel restrictions have been made for protection. We are providing health awareness campaigns.”

Since the end of May, diarrhea has been reported in the villages of Htein Kaung, Lone Tu, Bwe Doe, Tweep Sat, Loke, Out Chai, Dike Chaung, Out Tan Daung, and Wat Chang Sat in the Daai area of Paletwa Township. On 15 June, a fast-spreading diarrheal disease broke out in Outchai Village of Mindat Township, resulting in the deaths of two elderly residents. Consequently, Outchai Village remains under lockdown to prevent further spread. The number of diarrhea cases in Paletwa Township continues to rise, and Daai Local Council is coordinating with the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government (NUG) to secure necessary medication.
