On 18 July, the Ministry of Labor of the National Unity Government announced its readiness to collaborate with relevant Thai ministries regarding the concerns of Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand. The Ministry called on the Thai government, parliament, and organizations concerned with labor and human rights to prevent the Burmese military junta from oppressing Myanmar nationals in Thailand. The Ministry urged the Thai government to promptly issue Non-Thai Identification Cards (pink cards) to Burmese migrant workers without identification. It emphasized that Burmese nationals holding documents like the Non-Thai Identification Card and Work Permit should be allowed to travel, live, and work freely in Thailand. The Ministry also requested the cessation of the Burmese military junta’s process of issuing Certificate of Identity (CI) documents in Thailand and asked the Thai government to review the policy that makes CI mandatory. The Ministry also called for an effective prohibition of actions by the Myanmar junta, such as violating the agreement not to double-tax Myanmar nationals’ salary income in Thailand and forcing migrant workers to send 25 percent of their income through junta-specified banks and financial services. Additionally, the Ministry appealed to Thai authorities to extend the Work Permit and Visa for Burmese migrant workers with expired passports, allowing them to continue working for a certain period.
