KIA Advances in Kachin State, Captures Junta Outposts

Irrawaddy-Dec 4

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allies reportedly attacked Myanmar junta targets in Bhamo and Mansi townships, Kachin State, on Wednesday morning. The armed group said outposts were seized from Infantry Battalion 47 troops near the entrance to Bhamo town on the Mansi road. Bhamo is a junta power base in Kachin State. A KIA statement said: “The casualties are unclear but Light Infantry Battalions 319 and 601 and Artillery Battalion 523 headquarters in Mansi Township have been encircled by simultaneous attacks.”

KIA sources claimed that jungle outposts in Mansi and Bhamo also fell on Wednesday. Since launching an offensive in March, the KIA and its allies have captured approximately 300 junta positions, including battalion headquarters and several important roads. The regime’s Military Operations Command 21, two infantry and artillery battalions, and medical and engineering units are based in the township. The KIA and its allies have seized significant areas of Mansi Township in recent months but three battalion headquarters are holding out. The KIA and its allies have seized more than 12 towns in Kachin State, northern Sagaing Region and Shan State since the 2021 coup. Read more at:
