Long Resistance Control-Mizzima-June 15
Military Council troops have recaptured the Kataingti military camp near Kataingti village in Hpapun Township, Karen State, after launching a coordinated offensive starting around 7 am on 7 June, according to frontline sources and resistance groups. The camp, situated along the Hpapun–Kamarmaung road, had been under the control of joint forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) since 23 January. Following their earlier defeat, junta forces had retreated to the old base of the Border Guard Force (BGF-1013) west of Kataingti. Lieutenant Colonel Saw Kler Doh, spokesperson for KNLA Brigade 5, confirmed the development on 12 June, saying, “It’s true that the junta forces have retaken the Kataingti camp.” A frontline source added that the troops are now also occupying the area surrounding the district hospital in Kataingti village.
To reclaim the camp, the Military Council launched repeated offensives from the Kamarmaung side, carried out bombing raids, and air-dropped ammunition and supplies over a period of more than four months. Local sources reported casualties on both sides, although exact figures could not be verified independently. Despite losing Kataingti, KNLA and coalition forces continue to hold several strategic camps along the same route, including Ku-Seik, Ma-Htaw, Taungthonelone, and Sin-Swe (Htee Ka Saw Me). Blockades remain in place around several junta-held infantry battalions, including the Hpapun Strategic Command. Villagers near the camp have expressed concern about renewed airstrikes and artillery fire now that the junta has reoccupied the area.
A resident told Mizzima, “Whenever a camp is retaken, nearby villages usually face more attacks. People are afraid of being displaced again.” Since the 2021 military coup, Karen State has remained one of the most active conflict zones, with resistance forces steadily increasing their territorial control in parts of the southeast. The Military Council has responded with escalated air operations and ground reinforcements in contested regions like Hpapun. Read more at:
