Malaysian Police have confirmed that businessman Low Taek Jhow or better known as Jho Low, who is on the wanted list over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) probe, has escaped to Macau, Channel News Asia reports. A spokesman for the Security Bureau in Macau told the South China Morning Post that according to the law, “the authorities do not reveal any information about the entrance or exit across the border of any individual”. Low is wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations that some US$4.5 billion was siphoned from 1MDB between 2009 and 2015. Cash amounting to RM1.1bil stashed in 408 bank accounts have been frozen as of now but this is not the final tally, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The anti-graft body said more were to come as investigations into alleged misappropriation of funds deepen, the Star Online reports.
