Japan is offering advanced facial recognition technology that would ensure smooth travelling between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, as part of its bid for the KL-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project. Bids for the KL-Singapore HSR project are due to be submitted by the middle of this year and the successful bidder will be known by the end of 2018. Japan’s Ambassador to Malaysia Maiko Miyagawa said that Japan’s bullet trains, or shinkansen, accident-free record since its introduction in 1964, is another strong factor in its bid for the project, which is estimated to cost between RM50 billion (US$12.7 billion) and RM60 billion.
