Indonesia “strongly rejects” any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians or to change the demography of the Palestinian territory, the Foreign Ministry has said, following Tuesday’s statement from United States President Donald Trump on his plan to take charge of the Gaza Strip and permanently relocate its population. Such a plan “obstructs the realization of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine” as envisioned by the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, the ministry wrote in a statement issued on Wednesday. “Indonesia calls on the international community to ensure respect for international law, particularly the right to self-determination of the Palestinians as well as their inalienable right to return to their homeland,” the ministry continued. The only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East, it added, was through addressing the root cause of the problem: “the illegal and prolonged Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory”. The US President unveiled a plan to take over the Gaza Strip, saying that he saw “a long-term plan ownership position” for the US that would bring “great stability to that part of the Middle East”. His plan includes the permanent relocation of around 2 million of Gaza’s residents, according to a figure from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
Trump’s plan was quickly met with global outrage, with countries immediately issuing statements to oppose the idea while emphasizing the need to commit to a two-state solution. Read more at: https://www.thejakartapost.com/world/2025/02/06/indonesia-strongly-rejects-trumps-gaza-takeover-plan.html.
